"Don't box yourself in." That was the advice a senior digital health leader gave me this week. Invest in learning relentlessly. Don't become so attached to one path that you miss the opportunities emerging around you. The interesting thing is that his advice perfectly described the week I was having. This week I wasn't filling one role. I was doing what the work required. At the Infectious Disease Alliance, I was rebuilding a newsletter infrastructure connecting three systems — Wix, Brevo, and Google Sheets. On paper, simple. In reality: • Reconciling thousands of records • Identifying 71 unsubscribed contacts hidden across platforms • Debugging failed API integrations • Redesigning automation logic for a pipeline supporting 5,000+ stakeholders The route changed multiple times. The destination didn't. At one point I had a test email called "ihopeitworksthisnight@gmail.com" because it was past midnight and I refused to stop until it worked. Eventually, the system held. Clean database. Automated synchronisation. No additional paid tools. At EOS Foundation, we were also shipping — two new Cortex Printout editions on migraines and epilepsy authored by Enioluwa Emmanuel Ojewunmi, plus platform improvements across SEO, mobile, and brand infrastructure. Somewhere between debugging APIs and publishing brain health content, I understood what Daniel meant. Learning isn't preparation for the work. Sometimes learning is the work. Operations isn't calendars or meetings. It's building enough structure that good work keeps moving. Different tasks. Same mission. Create clarity. Reduce friction. Keep things moving. Thank you Daniel Bangura, Tue Ingemann Paarup, The Emmanuel Olatunde Sanya Foundation team, and everyone at Infectious Disease Alliance. Still learning. Still building. Still shipping.
