Building systems for health NGOs
A broken hiring pipeline isn't always a people problem
A broken hiring pipeline isn't always a people problem.
Sometimes it's just a workflow problem.
While supporting website operations for a global health organization, the recruitment team suddenly lost visibility into candidate applications.
Applications were coming in, but they weren't appearing where the team tracked candidates.
Which meant:
• HR couldn't see new applicants
• follow-ups slowed down
• the pipeline looked empty even when it wasn't
After digging into the system, the issue turned out to be a disconnect between the Wix application form and the Google Sheets tracker used by the HR team.
Once the workflow was corrected, candidate data started flowing again and the recruitment pipeline became visible to the team.
It was a simple fix, but it reminded me of something important about operations:
Most problems in organizations aren't caused by people.
They're caused by invisible breaks in the system between tools, teams, or processes.
That's why I enjoy operations work — finding those small gaps and restoring the flow.
